Part of Akufo-Addo’s statue in Sekondi-Takoradi damaged 

Part of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s statue erected at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region has been damaged by some unknown individuals. 

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the site, it observed that the calf area of the left leg of the President’s statue had been damaged, causing some mixed reactions among some residents who spoke to the GNA. 

Ms Doris Arhin, a resident, said it was unpatriotic for some people to vandalise the statue of the President, and called on the authorities to investigate and bring the culprits to book. 

She said: “This is very wrong because some of these things are meant to honour and remember great individuals who have served the nation, so I do not see why some people will damage the statue of our President. Our authorities must take action and make the perpetrators face the law.” 

Mr Daniel Cudjoe, a driver, believed that the statue was misplaced priority, and that removing it was a step in the right direction. 

“This government did not do anything for us here in the Western Region, so why should we have this statue here?” he quizzed. 

President Akufo-Addo’s statue was recently unveiled during his, “Thank you tour” of the Western Region by some chiefs to honour him for the significant development projects undertaken by his government in the region. 

While the statue received plaudits from some residents, others criticised the erection of the monument and threatened to pull it down.
