Walewale Polls Re-run: The law must deal with former NPP Chairman  – Aspirant demands

Calls have been intensified for the law to deal ruthlessly with former New Patriotic Party(NPP) Yagaba-Kubori Constituency, Akamara Bawah for allegedly destroying some ballot papers during sorting.

The suspect was whisked away by armed policemen after he destroyed some ballot papers during sorting realizing that his preferred candidate was losing.

In the ensuing melee, armed police had to whisk him away as angry youth attempted to lynch him over his conduct that disrupted the process.

Speaking to the media, one of the aspirants Dr. Kabiru Tiah Mahama demanded that the law must take its course insisting that he should be dealt with to serve as a deterrent to other electoral offenders.

“A democratic process was organised, sorting was done and someone from nowhere knowing that there was imminent defeat decided to disrupt the process. We know the person and I have raised issues about this same person over accreditation this morning. The ballot boxes have been secured, it must be counted and I have absolutely no doubt that the people’s favourite will be declared. The gentleman has no business in this election and I am told the police have picked him up and he is being sent to Bolga. I pray the law takes its course”, he said.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has in an official statement confirmed the arrest of the former NPP Executive said to be in detention in Bolgatanga.

The statement reads in part “Following a disruption during the vote-counting process in the ongoing re-run of the New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Primary at Walewale one person, identified as Kamara Bawah, has been arrested for causing damage to some ballot papers.

The suspect is in custody assisting the Police investigation. Security has since been strengthened within Walewale and its environs to ensure law and order”
