NPP’s suspends Northern Regional Nasara Coordinator over misconduct

The Northern Regional Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended Mr Abdul-Fatawu from his position as Northern Regional Nasara Coordinator following a series of controversial statements he made on social media and during public appearances.

The committee cited concerns over the damaging impact of his remarks on the party’s reputation, prompting the indefinite suspension.

The decision, reached during a meeting on October 12, 2024, was taken in accordance with Article 4(7a) of the party’s constitution, which defines misconduct as any action by a member that brings the party into public ridicule or disrepute.

Abdul-Fatawu’s recent comments on social media and subsequent outbursts on radio and other media platforms were deemed to have violated this code of conduct.

In a formal notification addressed to Abdul-Fatawu, the Northern Regional Executive Committee stated: “The comments you made have caused significant damage to the party’s reputation.

“As a result, the Regional Executive Committee has invoked its jurisdiction under the party’s constitution, and the matter has been referred to the Regional Disciplinary Committee for further review.”

The statement further clarified that Abdul-Fatawu’s suspension is immediate and indefinite, pending the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings.

“Until further notice and pending the outcome of the disciplinary process, you are hereby suspended from your position as Northern Regional Nasara Coordinator,” the letter stated.

See full statement below;

“I write to officially communicate the Northern Regional Executive Committee’s decision to suspend you from your position as the Northern Regional Nasara Coordinator. This decision was taken after carefully considering your recent comments on social media and subsequent outbursts on radio and other media platforms, which have caused significant damage to the party’s reputation.

“The Regional Executive Committee, in its meeting on 12th October 2024, arrived at this decision in line with Article 4(7a) of the Party’s constitution, which clearly stipulates that any conduct by a member that brings the name of the Party into disrepute or public ridicule constitutes misconduct.

“In light of the severity of the matter, the Northern Regional Executive Committee has decided to invoke the original jurisdiction of the Regional Disciplinary Committee as permitted under Article 4(3)(2) of the Party constitution. As a result, the issue has been referred to the Regional Disciplinary Committee for further review and action.

“Until further notice and pending the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings, you are hereby suspended from your position as Northern Regional Nasara Coordinator, effective immediately.

“We trust that you will cooperate fully with the Regional Disciplinary Committee.
