The University of Ghana, owners of the Legon Botanical Gardens, has announced that it has terminated its contract with Mulch Ghana Limited for the management of the facility – the Legon Botanical Gardens.
The University of Ghana explained that its contractual agreement with Mulch Ghana has come to an end due to the failure of the company to fulfil its obligations under the contract, stressing that the Gardens will not be closed down but will continue to operate after a period of repairs and renovations.
“The University of Ghana announces the successful resolution of its longstanding contractual dispute with Mulch Ghana Limited, formerly Pine Spring Company Limited, regarding the management of the University of Ghana Botanical Gardens. Following a legal process that affirmed the University’s position, Mulch Ghana Limited agreed to cease its operations and vacate the Gardens by November 30, 2024,” a press release dated October 12, 2024, and signed by the Director of Public Affairs of the University of Ghana, Dr Elizier Taiba Ameyaw-Buronyah, said.
The press release explained that the contract with Mulch Ghana Limited was entered into in 2009 for the renovation and management of the Gardens. But the company has within the period failed to meet its side of the bargain leading to long negations and legal proceedings.
Mulch Ghana Limited had in an early communication to the public suggested that the Gardens will be closed down but the University has said the Gardens will continue to operate.
“The University assures the public that the Legon Botanical Gardens will continue to operate as a green space for the community. Following a period of repairs and renovation, the Botanical Gardens will reopen to the public, fulfilling its intended purpose as a vital green zone,” the release concluded.
