In a moment of reflection and pride, President Akufo-Addo recently took the opportunity to speak about Ghana’s progress in both domestic and international spheres, highlighting key milestones and offering hope for the future of African democracy.
Speaking at the official commissioning of the Ministry of Foreign and Regional Integration’s office complex annex on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, the President shared his thoughts on the peaceful nature of Ghana’s electoral process, particularly following the recent NPP party’s election campaign.
“The peaceful nature of the electoral process and the gracious concession of Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP presidential candidate, are powerful reminders that democracy remains the foundation of our progress and national unity,” President Akufo-Addo remarked during the ceremony.
He continued, “This moment should serve as a symbol of hope for the rest of the African continent, affirming that the will of the people must always prevail.”
His words were a nod to Ghana’s long-standing tradition of peaceful transitions of power, which continues to be a beacon of hope in a region often troubled by political unrest.
The President also took the opportunity to reflect on the achievements of his administration, particularly in foreign diplomacy, and the role the Ministry of Foreign Affairs played in advancing Ghana’s standing on the global stage.
“During my tenure as President, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been instrumental in advancing our diplomatic successes,” he noted, acknowledging the vital role of Ghanaian diplomats in forging strong international ties.
Akufo-Addo further highlighted Ghana’s successful bids to host the Secretariats of both the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the Climate Vulnerable Forum in Accra as key accomplishments of his leadership.
“These were pivotal moments for our nation’s global standing,” he said, emphasizing how these wins reflect the growing influence of Ghana on the African continent and beyond.
