NPP’s Patrick Boakye Yiadom confirmed winner in Obuasi East after re-collation

The re-collation of parliamentary election results for the Obuasi East constituency has confirmed Patrick Boakye Yiadom of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the winner by a narrow margin of 19 votes.

The re-collation, which took place at the Greater Accra Electoral Commission (EC) office, is part of the process for nine constituencies undergoing review.

According to EC officials, Boakye Yiadom secured 18,558 votes, edging out his closest rival, Samuel Aboagye of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who received 18,539 votes.

Independent candidate Adjei Owusu Afriyie trailed with 424 votes.

The re-collation was triggered by disputes over procedural irregularities in the initial vote count.

The EC emphasized its commitment to transparency and accuracy to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.

With political tensions running high, the EC reassured the public that it was dedicated to resolving the outstanding issues in the affected constituencies.

Results from the remaining eight constituencies are expected to be announced later today, with heavy security in place at the EC’s Greater Accra Regional office to ensure a smooth process.
