Annoh-Dompreh retains Nsawam-Adoagyiri seat after recount

New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Frank Annoh-Dompreh has successfully retained his Nsawam Adoagyiri parliamentary seat after a recount of the election results.

He secured 29,640 votes, narrowly defeating the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Amenorpe Philbert Fummey, who received 29,433 votes.

The recount was ordered by the High Court on December 20, following a judicial review initiated by six NPP parliamentary candidates who raised concerns about irregularities in the initial collation process.

The court directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-collate and announce results for Nsawam Adoagyiri and Ablekuma North constituencies, nullifying the previous results.

Tensions had been high during the initial collation, with disruptions at the Nsawam Adoagyiri collation center and similar issues in other constituencies.

The NDC has contested the re-collation process, arguing that the results declared at polling stations should stand.

Earlier, Patrick Boakye Yiadom also won the seat for the NPP.

According to EC officials, Boakye Yiadom secured 18,558 votes, edging out his closest rival, Samuel Aboagye of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who received 18,539 votes.

Independent candidate Adjei Owusu Afriyie trailed with 424 votes.
