Patrick Yaw Boamah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has successfully retained the Okaikwei Central parliamentary seat in the 2024 elections following a re-collation of the election results at the Greater Accra Regional Office of the Electoral Commission (EC).
The re-collation overturned an earlier result in which Baba Sadiq of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had been declared the winner.
Boamah secured 21,099 votes, while Sadiq received 19,368 votes of the total ballots cast.
The re-collation process was ordered to address concerns over irregularities in the initial count, and the new results confirmed Boamah’s victory.
In his victory speech, Boamah expressed his sincere gratitude to the people of Okaikwei Central for their continued trust and support.
He vowed to continue advocating for the development of the constituency and to represent their interests effectively in Parliament.
“In elections, to compete is part of democracy. To lose is part of democracy, and to win is also part of democracy. So, let me congratulate my competitor, the NDC, and also use the opportunity to thank the teeming supporters of the NPP in Okaikwei Central and the national party,” Boamah said.
He further added, “We fought a good fight, waged a very good campaign, and God has been so good to us, giving us victory.”
Boamah’s victory in Okaikwei Central follows a competitive race and adds to the growing list of NPP successes in the ongoing re-collation process.
The re-collation was carried out under strict security to ensure the integrity of the election results.
