NDC will not reduce fuel prices if we come to power – John Jinapor tells drivers

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu, John Abdulai Jinapor, has emphasised that contrary to the belief of many Ghanaians, the NDC will not reduce fuel prices if they come to power.

In an interactive version of Adom TV’s Badwam show on 12 July 2024, John Jinapor said that it would be difficult for the NDC to reduce prices of petroleum products if they win the 2024 elections.

“There are two fundamental issues about petroleum prices. If you cannot reduce it, don’t let it go up too much, that’s the first thing we should look at. If you reduce the price, you have to provision for it in the budget. I will not tell you that because we want to win power, I should lie to you that if we come we shall reduce fuel prices, no, tharlt will not happen ” the NDC MP said.

“We have to be realistic because we need to pay hospitals, we have to build roads and schools. When you are managing an economy, you have to balance it” John Jinapor further stated in responds to a question posed by a taxi driver.

Scores of NDC activists, including the top guns have sought to chastise the Akufo-Addo administration for the recent marginal increases in fuel prices.

Samuel Gyamfi, the party’s Communications Officer, has, on several occasions, made posts on his social media handles comparing prices of petroleum products during Mahama’s era and the current administration.

Some of NDC’s communicators have appealed to the Ghanaian electorate to vote out the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and vote the NDC into office so it can and reduce fuel prices to better their lives.

John Jinapor, in that interactive programme, confirmed that the NDC, should they win power, will not reduce fuel prices neither will fuel prices remain static.
