Former Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif’s home attacked amid rising insecurity

The home of Mustapha Ussif, former Minister of Youth and Sports and Member of Parliament for Yagaba/Kubori, has reportedly been attacked by unidentified thugs.

The incident occurred just weeks after the December 7, 2024 general elections and the peaceful transition of power to President John Dramani Mahama, highlighting growing concerns over increasing insecurity in the country.

Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, 22 January, Mr Ussif condemned the escalating violence, describing it as unchecked and alarming.

“These hooligans have unleashed unrestrained mayhem on public institutions and innocent citizens,” he said, detailing violent events in his constituency.

“In my constituency, some miscreants attacked the district assembly office, locked up the place, and sacked all the staff. Just yesterday, some NDC violent youth invaded my house,” he added.

Mr Ussif criticised the Ghana Police Service for failing to act despite evidence of these incidents circulating on social media.

“The Ghana Police Service watched this happen without any arrest. These acts of violence pose a serious threat to the peace of our country,” he stated.

He also accused the new government and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of failing to control their supporters.

“It is worrying that the new government and the NDC have not taken any action to restrain their supporters from these acts of violence across the country,” he remarked.

The attack and the broader concerns raised by Mr Ussif underscore the urgent need for decisive action to address insecurity and uphold peace in the country.
