Mahama hints of a change in site for National Cathedral if there’s a reconsideration for its completion

President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has hinted at a change of site for the National Cathedral if a consensus is reached on building the Cathedral.

According to him, the country is currently at a crossroads with its economy; however, if there is a reconsideration on building the project, the country will have a lesser figure than what the former government estimated for the building of the project.

However, if there is any reconsideration of the project, which is now a hole in the middle of Accra, there may be a change in the site selected.

The President was speaking at the ongoing National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service.

“The current circumstances that Ghana is going through, it makes no sense to achieve such a project at a whooping sum of $400 million. I am informed that the National Ecumenical Center in Abuja which is used by all Christian Faith in Abuja was built at $30 million.

I believe that we can reach a more reasonable figure for achieving such a project, and together we can raise the funding for it. Such a reconsideration of this project might even include changing the current site that was used for the project. I leave the rest to any such future consultation we will have as a body of Christ.

He explained “As leaders, we are called to serve with integrity and accountability. Proverbs 29:2 reminds us “When The Righteous are in authority the people rejoice”. I therefore pledge before you my holy athers,and a government that is transparent, accountable and focused on justice and fairness”.
