Kwesi Nyantakyi sues Dan Kweku Yeboah in GHC10 million lawsuit

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi has launched a defamation lawsuit against Dan Kweku Yeboah, Peace FM, Pulse Ghana, and GhanaWeb, seeking GHC10 million in damages.

Filed on Monday (28 October), the suit aims to address what Nyantakyi describes as “reckless and defamatory” allegations broadcast on Peace FM’s morning show “Kokrokoo” and subsequently reported by the news outlets.

According to the lawsuit, Yeboah alleged on air that Nyantakyi withdrew US$2 million from GFA funds at Unibank for personal use, a claim translated as: “President Kwesi Nyantakyi alone went to Unibank and withdrew GFA’s two million dollars and embezzled or misappropriated it for his personal benefit.”

Nyantakyi contends that this accusation, widely circulated by the media, has severely impacted his public and professional reputation, resulting in considerable personal distress.

The lawsuit accuses the defendants of knowingly publishing false information, stating, “The defendants published or caused to be published the said words complained of knowing they were false and reckless as to their truth or falsity.”

Furthermore, it alleges that the statements were made with “malice or spite,” with the intent to damage Nyantakyi’s reputation.

Nyantakyi claims the fallout from these statements has been overwhelming, as friends, family, and concerned members of the public from both Ghana and abroad have contacted him, expressing frustration and concern.
