Bawumia hasn’t done anything outstanding to boast about digitalization – Otokunor

National Democratic Congress (NDC) spokesman on Agriculture and Director of interparty and Civil Society Relations, Dr Peter Boamah Otokunor has thrown a subtle shade at the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Bawumia for bragging about his achievement in digitization.

During an interview on Onua FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Dr. Oyukunor said that Dr Bawumia is not the founder and genesis of digitalization in Ghana as he seeks to portray.

According to him, before the NPP came into power in January 2017, former President John Mahama had already built the popular government website ‘ghana.gov.gh’ and E-system which provided all the electronic services required at the time

The former Deputy NDC General Secretary labelled Dr Bawumia a liar for including in this campaign that he and his team built the ‘ghana.gov.gh’.

“The noise about the digitization is nothing. It is from someone whose economy has failed him. He called himself the “Economicc Wizkid. He said he would save this country with his economics but his plan failed him and the country. Dr Bawumia brags about digitization because he has failed as an Economist. Even with that, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has not done anything outstanding to boast of digitization”. He lashed out while reacting to the recently launched Citizens App.

The Citizen App according to the government, is designed as a personalised platform for all Ghanaians, aiming to improve access to a wide range of government services while delivering real-time information to users.

Dr. Bawumia said the platform will encourage the citizenry to embrace technology as it removes duplication of data collection.

“With this interoperability, you only need to submit data once to the system. Once that’s done, it can be assessed by the GRA, Drivers Vehicle and Licenses Authority, Insurers, Business Registrations, etc…What Ghana has done, many advanced countries have not yet done it. So we are moving in a direction which has many opportunities,” he said.
