Western North Region: 20-year-old robbery suspect escapes from police custody in Juaboso

A male adult, Yaw Tawiah, also known as Jah Boy, has escaped from lawful custody, triggering police investigations, sources at the Juaboso District Command have confirmed to Asaase News.

The escape occurred at the Sefwi Boinzan Police Station on the morning of 3 October 2024 while Tawiah, aged 20, was awaiting arraignment for charges including conspiracy to rob, robbery, and possession of a firearm without authority.

The Juaboso Police District Commander, Chief Superintendent Samuel Ntosoh was notified of the incident and has led a team to the Boinzan Charge Office to assess the situation, the source told Asaase News.

The initial assessment revealed that policewoman Constable Alice Owusu Agyemang, who was on duty at the time, had opened the cell to fetch water for the escapee and his accomplice, Bright Tetteh, alias Kofi Y2K, to use for flushing their water closet. In the process, suspect Tawiah pushed the officer and managed to escape into nearby bushes.

A search party, including patrol teams, was immediately organized to comb the surrounding areas and nearby communities, but efforts to locate the suspect have so far been unsuccessful.

Police have since liaised with informants in an attempt to capture the fugitive.
