The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Talensi, Thomas Duanab Wuni Pearson has opened up about the NPP’s defeat in the recent general elections, offering a candid analysis of the factors that led to the party’s loss.
In a detailed interview with A1 Radio, Pearson highlighted the impact of mindset, internal statements, and historical patterns on the NPP’s campaign performance.
Pearson was quick to praise Figo, the NPP candidate in the Bolgatanga constituency, acknowledging the tough race he faced. “When you go into an election, you look at what would come out of the election positively, unless, of course, you are not committed,” Pearson stated.
“You saw how Figo was in Bolga. It was a very difficult election for him, but I believe he put in all his best and spent to the last pesewa.
“If he had thought that, in the last election, Adongo beat us by twenty thousand or sixteen thousand, he wouldn’t have done what he was doing. He believed positively that he could win.”
Pearson’s praise for Figo was tempered with a sobering reflection on how the NPP’s internal narrative and public statements impacted the election outcome.
“We were subdued as a result of our own pronouncements sometimes. That is what led to this massive defeat,” he said. “But it’s not surprising because, in 2016, we did the same to them. In every eight years, these things are bound to happen, I believe.”
This historical perspective from Pearson echoes a common theme in Ghanaian politics, where party fortunes often shift dramatically every eight years.
Pearson admitted that the NPP’s failure to inspire confidence among voters and its internal squabbles contributed significantly to their loss.
The DCE went on to emphasize the importance of a positive outlook and unity within the party, acknowledging that, despite the challenges, the NPP must learn from its mistakes and refocus its efforts.
