Rhythms On Da Runway celebrates Africa’s best and brightest while also providing a platform for designers and artists to showcase their work to the rest of the world.
The event is powered by Nineteen57 clothing, owned by Kofi Okyere Darko [KOD].
During the welcome address, Edem Mensah-Tsotorme, media relations director at Nineteen57 Events, stated that fashion plays an important role in the creative economy, contributing significantly to countries’ Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and creating job opportunities for young people.
“We at Nineteen57 are more than ecstatic to welcome you to tonight’s all-important industry assignment, the launch of Rhythms On Da Runway 2024.”
Football stars, movie stars, media personalities, musicians, and politicians such as Stephen Appiah, Derrick Boateng, Sammy Gyamfi, Abeiku Santana, Reggie Rockstone, and James Gardner attended the event, which kicked off with a colourful ceremony at the airport on Saturday, 21 September at the Silver Star Tower, Airport City.
“An international financial institution and a member of the World Bank, The International Finance Corporation (IFC), has recognised fashion as a fast-growing, vibrant sector in the creative economy and its potential to create jobs and drive inclusion.”
“To be able to tap these benefits, there is the need for one to be more intentional by creating the conducive atmosphere for those in the fashion ecosystem to thrive and it is why Rhythms On Da Runway for the past 14 years has created that enabling environment for those in the space.
Mensah-Tsotorme added, “We are optimistic that with your continued support, we would be able to forge key partnerships with relevant stakeholders to build a robust fashion ecosystem thereby expanding opportunities and promoting more creative talents and crafts.”
Rhythms On Da Runway will return for another edition on 30 November with the theme “The Kente Edition,” held at the Accra International Conference Centre [AICC].
“Tonight, we will outline the various modalities and road map to the main event. It is with mixed feelings I announce to you tonight that this is going to be our last launch. We will further elaborate on that.”
