Former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu and ex-Chief Executive of the National Youth Authority, Abdulai Mohammed Mubarak alias Ras Mubarak Ras has criticised Onua TV for allegedly enabling violence in Obuasi.
He attributed the recent Obuasi incidents to the station’s failure to monitor its staff’s inflammatory remarks effectively.
Ras Mubarak in a Facebook post on Monday (20 January 2025) emphasised the need for responsible media practices, urging platforms to uphold free speech while avoiding content that incites unrest.
He called on media stakeholders to prioritise ethical journalism, stressing that lawlessness and thuggery undermine Ghana’s democratic aspirations. Media houses, he noted, play pivotal roles in shaping a peaceful society.
His post read: “Place the blame of the very unfortunate events in Obuasi squarely at the doorsteps of Onua TV which allowed its platform to be used to incite violence by one of its staff.
“We’ve come a long way and must not, in the name of free speech allow media houses to be used as vessels to incite violence. We can’t live in a country with such wanton indiscipline.
“Thuggery and any other acts of lawlessness must have no place in the Ghana we all want. We sit aloof at our own peril.”
