In the wake of a disappointing performance in the 2024 elections, there has been much speculation about the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) morale.

However, Honourable Afenyo-Markin, a prominent figure in the party and the current Minority leader has made it clear that he is not in a position to assess how his colleagues are feeling. Instead, he emphasized the need for the NPP to return to its foundational work and focus on recovery.

“I can’t speak for how they feel, but what I know is this is not the first time the NPP has faced such a defeat, and it certainly won’t be the last,” Afenyo-Markin remarked with confidence.

“We’ve seen this before, and we’ve come back stronger. Our focus now should be on recharging, recovering, and preparing for what comes next.”

Drawing from past experiences, Afenyo-Markin pointed out that losses in both the presidential and parliamentary elections are not new for the NPP.

He referenced previous setbacks during the tenures of Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo, which ultimately led to the NPP’s resurgence.

Reflecting on these past challenges, he acknowledged the need for resilience. “We’ve been through tough times before, and each time we’ve emerged better equipped to face the future,” he said. “This is a lesson we must carry forward. No one party can claim victory forever, and no defeat is final.”

While many may focus on the immediate aftermath of the loss, Afenyo-Markin’s words underline the bigger picture—the importance of resilience and rebuilding.

“The NPP has built a strong reputation over the years, and I believe that with the right strategies, we will win back the trust of the people,” he confidently declared. “What we have to offer in the future will surpass anything we have presented before.”

For those watching from the sidelines, it’s a reminder that political fortunes often ebb and flow. In Ghana’s political landscape, setbacks are part of the journey.

And for Afenyo-Markin and the NPP, the path forward lies in their ability to reconnect with their roots and offer a renewed vision to the Ghanaian people.
