Minority’s opposition to nominees was politically motivated – Ayariga

Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has claimed that the Minority’s opposition to the approval of two ministerial nominees was driven by political motives rather than concerns about their competence.

Speaking on GBC’s Breakfast Show with Kafui Dey monitored by MyNewsGH, Ayariga stated, “The Minority acted under pressure, and unfortunately, they weren’t tactful enough to hide where that pressure was coming from.

“Their main issue with the nominees had nothing to do with their roles or policy expertise.”

He noted that criticisms against Sam George stemmed from his past remarks about former President Akufo-Addo, while concerns about Abaa’s nomination focused on his role as Chair of the Oral Committee rather than his suitability for the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

“These are two young men who have been at the forefront of the NDC’s fight to return to power. Naturally, the opposing side would target them when they appear before the committee,” he added.

Despite the scrutiny, Ayariga was confident that both nominees would be approved, stating, “Everyone agrees they are competent, and we have the numbers to confirm them.”
