Kofi Adams right man to resolve Ghanaâs sporting crisis - Felix Kwakye Ofosu
Adams, 49, was recently vetted by the Appointments Committee and is set to be sworn in by President John Mahama in the coming days.He replaces Mustapha Ussif as Minister of Sports at a time when Ghanaâs sporting sector faces serious challenges.Ghanaâs national football team, the Black Stars, recently failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, marking the first time since 2004 that the country will miss the continental tournament. The teamâs poor performance in the qualifiersâfinishing at the bottom of their groupâhas intensified calls for reform.Speaking in Parliament, Kwakye Ofosu recalled Adamsâ leadership qualities: ââ¦he had a keen eye for talent, and he goes to a ministry where sporting talent is key to a survivor. As we speak Mr. Speaker, Ghana's sporting sector is in complete disarray.âOnly yesterday or the day before, a football fan who had gone to witness a football match did not go home back alive. He lost his life under tragic circumstances, compelling a halt of the Ghanaian League.âThese are challenges that I believe he has the capacity to resolve, and therefore I wish him well in the endeavour.â
