Ghana’s sporting sector is in a state of crisis, according to Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.He highlighted the urgent need for reforms while expressing confidence in Kofi Adams’ ability to address the challenges ahead.Adams, 49, was vetted by the Appointments Committee last week and is set to be sworn in by President John Mahama in the coming days.Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, recently failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco—marking the first time since 2004 that the team will miss the tournament.The Black Stars’ poor performance in the qualifiers, finishing last in their group, reflects a decline in the country’s football fortunes.In Parliament, Kwakye Ofosu said, “As we speak, Ghana’s sporting sector is in complete disarray. Just days ago, a football fan lost his life under tragic circumstances at a league match, which led to the temporary suspension of the Ghana Premier League.”He expressed optimism in Adams’ leadership, noting his proven eye for talent and capacity for resolving difficult issues, such as infrastructure development, restructuring the league, and reviving national team performance.
