The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has announced plans to establish a dedicated Sports Policing Unit to enhance safety and security at football matches. This initiative comes in response to the recent violent incident at the Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko, which resulted in the tragic death of Yaw Frimpong.During a closed-door meeting with club representatives, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo-Dampare outlined measures to prevent similar occurrences. The Sports Policing Unit will engage supporter groups, ensure the presence of trained security personnel at matches, and strengthen intelligence operations.Additionally, sports policing will now be included in police training courses, ensuring officers are well-equipped to handle football-related security challenges. The GFA will meet Premier League clubs on February 6 to further discuss these security enhancements as part of broader efforts to safeguard Ghanaian football.
