All is set for the second annual Africa Cinema Summit, scheduled to take place in Accra from 7 to 10 October.
The summit which is being headlined by English actor Idris Elba will be attended by some prominent personalities including Fiona Lamptey, former director of UK Film at Netflix.
Lamptey is expected to share her insights and experience with a participant at the summit which also attracts participants across the globe.
From October 2020 to June 2023, Fiona Lamptey held the role of Director of UK Film at Netflix, where she led the charge in orchestrating the development and production of groundbreaking UK original films.
1, Film Producer
Before Netflix, Fiona commenced her career at Channel 4, starting in the Commercial Affairs Department, overseeing documentary, reality and live sports programming before venturing into the dynamic world of feature films. Over nine dedicated years as a production executive at Film 4, Fiona exhibited adept production management, supporting a rich tapestry of short film and feature productions, which included iconic titles like Four Lions, Attack the Block, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
2. Founder of Fruit Tree Media
Fiona established Fruit Tree Media in 2013 after becoming increasingly aware of the information gap between emerging and well-seasoned filmmakers. Her aim is a clear one: to cultivate and champion unrepresented voices and use her industry experience to develop new talent to the standard and with the same rigor undertaken by broadcasters/financiers.
3. Scary moments
Lamptey in a recent interview disclosed that she is scared of heights and small spaces.
4. BAFTA-winning Producer
In 2019, Fiona was a co-producer on the critically acclaimed SITTING IN LIMBO, which was nominated and won Best Single Drama and garnered her a BAFTA award.
Fiona’s other accolades include being named a Screen Star of Tomorrow, being recognised as a prominent Black industry leader as part of the inaugural Breaking the Glass Ceiling programme and being a co-opted member of the Bafta Film Committee. Currently, Fiona holds a pivotal position on the board of RAMBERT, the UK’s longest-running dance school.
5. Board member of Rambert
Lamptey was a year ago appointed to serve as a board member at Rambert, Britain’s oldest dance company.
Rambert is a dance company where brilliant and daring people could show up and be supported to push themselves to move the world forward.
