Right Reverend Hayford Aduse-Poku, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church in the Kwadso Circuit has voiced his strong support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, and praised the impact of the government’s Free Senior High School (SHS) program.
Bishop Aduse-Poku, known for his active role in community upliftment, reflected on the profound difference the initiative has made, especially for families who once faced significant financial barriers to education.
The Free SHS program, introduced under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration, has provided free secondary education to over a million Ghanaian students since its launch.
This initiative has brought relief to countless families, allowing children to access quality education without the financial burden of school fees. According to Bishop Poku, the program addresses a struggle he understands all too well.
“Growing up in a modest home, I witnessed firsthand how poverty limited educational access,” he recalled. “Many of my classmates, who had incredible potential, couldn’t advance to secondary school because their families couldn’t afford it. My own father, with more than a dozen children, bore the burden of school fees alone, stretching every cedi to give us the best opportunities.”
Reflecting on the Free SHS program, Bishop Poku said, “This program is one of the most significant strides for Ghanaians. It’s not only lifting the financial load from families but also ensuring that our children have a future grounded in knowledge and opportunity.” He views it as a foundation for the nation’s development and urged Ghanaians to appreciate the program’s impact.
The Bishop also touched on the importance of making an informed decision at the polls, emphasizing that the nation’s future is in the hands of its citizens. “Our vote is our voice,” he urged. “If we fail to support the progress that’s been made, particularly with a candidate like Dr. Bawumia, we risk setting our development back.”
