GFA ExCo to confront Black Stars’ AFCON failure on 20 November

The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Executive Council (ExCo) is set to convene on Wednesday (20 November), with an agenda aimed at addressing the state of football in the country.

At a critical juncture for the sport, the meeting seeks to shape the future direction of Ghana’s football landscape.

One pressing issue will dominate discussions—the Black Stars’ shock failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in nearly two decades.

The team’s absence from the 2025 tournament in Morocco has sent ripples through the footballing community, and the ExCo is expected to explore strategies to reinvigorate the senior national side and restore its status on the continental stage.

Beyond addressing the woes of the Black Stars, the council members will turn their attention to a planned GFA retreat.

This event is anticipated to serve as a crucial brainstorming session, drawing input from key stakeholders across the football ecosystem.

The retreat aims to generate actionable insights to propel the sport forward in the country.

In addition to national team concerns, the ExCo will be briefed on the progress of various domestic leagues.

These include the Ghana Premier League, the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, the Access Bank Division One League, the MTN FA Cup, and the Women’s FA Cup.

These updates are pivotal as the GFA seeks to bolster competitive football across all levels and ensure a steady pipeline of talent.

Also on the table will be discussions about Ghana’s other national teams, such as the Black Queens, Black Galaxies, Black Satellites, Black Princesses, Black Starlets, and the Black Maidens.

The GFA’s efforts to nurture the next generation of players will be emphasised by reviews of the U15 Boys and Girls Schools programme.

The activities of the Regional Football Associations (RFAs) will take centre stage, with reports expected on the 2nd and 3rd Divisions, Colts, and the Regional Women’s Division One Leagues.

Additionally, updates will be provided on youth development initiatives, such as the KGL U17 Colts Championship and the TDS Elite U15 boys and girls Colts Championships.

Further, the ExCo will assess ongoing infrastructure projects, notably the renovation of the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, which is key to enhancing training facilities for the national teams.
