FDA Recalls Contaminated Benylin Paediatric Syrup - Accra Ghana

The Food and Drugs Authrority in Accra has in a press release recalled Benylin Paediatric Syrup with LOT No. 329304. The recall was nessecitateed by the detection of "unacceptable high level" of Diethlene Glycol (DEG).

According to a press release sighted by news24gh.com, DEG is poisonous to humans and consuming is injurious to health, causing headaches, abdominal pain, vomitting, diarhhoea, paralysis, convulsion and acute kidney failure. The food regulator further assured members of the public that , whilest the product is not in our market,ongoing market suveillence efforts accross the country has been intensified to prevent the entry of LOT No. 329304 unto the Ghanaian market.

It stated that as a precautinary measure, since 2022 all syrup formulations imported into the country are sampled and tested for DEG before entry.
