Mahama lied – EC on NPP apparatchiks as Returning Officers

The Electoral Commission has described as lies claims by John Dramani Mahama that the commission is recruiting members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as returning officers for the December 7, 2024 elections.

John Dramani Mahama during his interaction with the London School of Economics is said to have alleged that information available to him and his political party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) indicates that Ministers and District Chief Executives were asked to provide the Commission with names of people they would want to be returning officers for the 2024 elections.

But a statement from the Commission described claims made by the former President as lies.

The Commission indicated that, per the public announcement, all interested Ghanaians were asked to apply for the Returning and Deputy Returning Officers position after which a panel was setup to interview.

The EC said in its statement that people who were picked to take up the positions are people who have had 8 years of experience working with the Commission as temporal Election officials.

The EC used the opportunity to caution the general public on the dissemination of Information during this election season.
