Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia Pledges Sea Defence System and Mini Harbour for Sege

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has unveiled plans to construct a sea defence system and a mini harbour for Sege, should he be elected as Ghana’s next President. His pledge is aimed at addressing the persistent challenges posed by tidal waves and enhancing economic growth through improved infrastructure for the local fishing industry.

During a campaign tour in the Greater Accra Region, Bawumia addressed a gathering of chiefs, traditional leaders, and residents of Sege, underscoring the urgent need for development in the coastal town. The NPP flagbearer highlighted that Sege’s strategic role as a key fishing hub necessitates robust infrastructure to safeguard the livelihoods of its inhabitants and boost the community’s economic prospects.

Bawumia emphasized that the proposed mini harbour would play a crucial role in modernizing Sege’s fishing industry. It would improve trade and market access for local fishermen and traders, thereby fostering economic development in the area.

“We need a mini harbour. So we are going to work on bringing a mini harbour to Sege here for you, and that is a very important thing,” Bawumia stated. “And then, of course, very important, we need to do the sea defence for this area.”

The sea defence system, according to Bawumia, is intended to protect Sege from the devastating impact of tidal waves, which have long affected the community and its surrounding regions. By implementing this infrastructure, Bawumia aims to mitigate the damage caused by these natural forces and ensure the safety and sustainability of the local fishing industry.

Bawumia’s promise reflects his broader campaign platform, which focuses on infrastructure development and economic growth. He assured the people of Sege that if elected, he would be accountable for delivering on these commitments. “If I come back in four years, I will have to give an account of what I have done with the sea defence,” he added.

As the elections approach, Bawumia’s proposals for Sege highlight his commitment to addressing regional challenges and improving the lives of local communities through targeted infrastructure investments.
