Yidana Zakaria issues apology as he prepares to step down

As his tenure draws to a close, North East Regional Minister Yidana Zakaria has issued a heartfelt apology to the chiefs and people of the region, acknowledging any mistakes or unmet expectations during his time in office.

Zakaria, who will step down on 7 January 2025, made the emotional request for forgiveness at a homecoming event in Walewale, organised by the Walewale Youth Association (WALYA) on Sunday (29 December).

Reflecting on his four years of service, Zakaria humbly recognised that he may not have always met the needs of all residents in the region.

“I want to sincerely thank the chiefs and the people for the support given me over the last four years,” he told the gathering. “Those decisions we collectively took for the common good of the people, to God be the glory.”

He went on to express his gratitude for the guidance and support he had received during his tenure, crediting his successes to the community and to divine intervention.

“I profusely apologise for any excesses that I may have committed over the four-year journey,” he said, before delivering a powerful message of unity and hope for the future.

“The dream lives on. Long live the Kingdom of Mamprugu, long live Walewale Youth Association, long live Mother Ghana. Mpusia Pam (I thank you so much).”

As the second-ever North East Regional Minister, following Solomon Boar Namilt’s pioneering role, Zakaria’s tenure marks a significant chapter in the region’s young history, which was formed in 2019.

As he prepares to bow out, the minister’s reflections and requests for forgiveness highlight both the challenges and triumphs of his time in office, leaving a legacy of humility, gratitude, and hope for the region’s continued progress.
