We can’t be seen washing our dirty linen in public – Ahiafor jumps to defence as Nitiwul exposes “state capture” before 2017

The first Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Benard Ahiafor, rose to the defence of lawmakers and leaders in the country when Dominic Nitiwul started to expose the double standards of the Chairman of Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).

According to him, some things are supposed to be discussed in private and not in public.

“Mr Speaker, as much as we do politics, we need to be very careful not to wash our dirty linens in public. Mr Speaker, we know that some matters are for close sitting so we should be very careful the way we do some politics regarding certain issues. You and I are very much aware of certain things we do in close sitting,” he said.

Hon. Dominic Nitiwul, who was peeved by the double standards of some elements in the current government who benefited from state lands, urged the ORAL Committee to visit Borteyman first to ascertain which crop of people benefited from state lands.

“Go to Borteyman first, check the land that were given in 2014, 2015 and 2016. I want you to go to Borteyman the affordable housing that President Kufour built, the land that shares boundary with it, it was given in 2014 and 2015 part of it in 2016, and find out the people who own those lands. Mr Chairman of ORAL go to the Aviation land and find out those who own those lands. You are part of ORAL go and do that. Mr ORAL Chairman, go to Tamale behind what we call residency where the president sometimes goes and he sleeps; they are all state lands go and find out the owners of those lands,” he said.

He continued, “Mr Chairman I want you to go to the land opposite the military cemetery. Mr Speaker, I want the ORAL Chairman…and I will be writing officially to you to go to Tamale and assess…I have all the state lands that were obtained between 2010 and 2016. I will provide the chairman…Mr Speaker, I am surprised that accountability, which is in our constitution, has become a problem here. Mr Speaker, let’s find out the land that is adjacent to the Military cemetery. The letter that was written by the current Attorney General and why that letter was written and why that land was released to Chain Homes”.
