MTN Ghana has announced plans of a possible partnership with Elon Musk’s internet service company, Starlink.

The announcement is coming on the back of the recent internet glitch in March which affected some countries in Africa, Asia Europe and Middle East following a damage to submarine cables in the Red Sea.

Speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday (2 October) in Accra, chief corporate services and sustainability officer of MTN Ghana, Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe said the company is already studying feasibility of the partnership.

“In the light of partnerships and partnering, MTN Group is collaborating with Starlink so there is that opportunity. As a group, we are also exploring satellite and how that could be used across countries, and we are undertaking pilots in some countries already.”

”… So it’s a technology that we are very much exploring.  We are open to partnering and actually partnering in terms of a specific response,” she said.
