Despite suffering a severe knee injury at a young age, he persevered and made his All Blacks debut in 1988.
He went on to play in the 1991 Rugby World Cup. Philpott wasn’t a superstar, but his commitment to his craft and work ethic won him over the fans.
In his 113 games with the team, Philpott is known as a pillar of support for Canterbury at the provincial level.
