Resilience and unity key to NPP’s political comeback, says Afenyo-Markin

Majority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has called on his colleague Members of Parliament (MPs) from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain steadfast and united following the party’s defeat in the recent general election.

In a Christmas message to his colleagues, Afenyo-Markin acknowledged the challenges ahead as the NPP transitions into a minority in the next Parliament, with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) taking over as the majority.

“We are all down, but let’s be resilient in this moment of adversity. Our friends in the NDC were down in 2016, but they lifted themselves up, and today, they are back. We can do the same,” he stated in a Facebook post, urging his colleagues to draw lessons from their political opponents.

The Effutu MP stressed the need for unity and collective action within the NPP to rebuild the party’s fortunes.

He urged his fellow MPs to remain hopeful, prioritize their health, and rely on prayer for strength during these trying times.

“Let’s act collectively, pray for strength and good health… It shall be well!” he said, expressing optimism about the NPP’s ability to recover and reclaim its position.

The Majority Leader has also proposed a new mantra for the party: “Touch One, Touch All,” to foster a sense of mutual support and solidarity among party members as they navigate their new role in opposition.

The message comes after the NPP lost its parliamentary majority in the 2024 elections, marking a significant shift in the political landscape.

Afenyo-Markin’s call for resilience and collaboration may serve as a rallying cry for the party as it seeks to rebuild in preparation for future challenges.

He concluded by wishing his colleagues a Merry Christmas, expressing hope for better days ahead for the party.
