In a startling turn of events, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, the sitting Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of conspiring with the Electoral Commission(EC) to eliminate her from the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Madam Morrison, now running as an independent candidate after failing to secure her party’s nomination, expressed deep frustration with the party she has served for years.
During a revealing interview captured by MyNewsGH.com, Morrison detailed her disillusionment with the NPP, accusing them of underhanded tactics and internal sabotage. According to her, the NPP has worked closely with electoral officials to block her participation in the December 7 elections, with her name being omitted from ballot papers.
“They [NPP] have teamed up with the Electoral Commission to ensure my name is not on the ballot, but I will not be silenced,” she declared. “The people of Agona West deserve to have their voices heard, and I am determined to represent them.”
The MP, who has been with the party for years, expressed disappointment in how she was treated during the primaries. Morrison revealed that certain party insiders intentionally undermined her candidacy, leading to her failure to secure the party’s endorsement for re-election. She believes the NPP is now targeting her with a legal injunction aimed at halting her campaign activities, but she remains defiant.
“The injunction is just another attempt to silence me, but I will not back down,” she stated. “The NPP has been attacking me publicly, sending their supporters to insult and spread lies about me, but I know the truth. And if they push me further, I will expose what I know about this government—from the presidency all the way down.”
Morrison claims to have a trove of sensitive information regarding the government’s inner workings, particularly around their use of COVID-19 relief funds. She hinted that she would reveal damning evidence about corruption within the current administration, should they continue to stand in her way.
“I was part of this administration during COVID-19, and I have seen what went on behind closed doors. If they think I’m going to sit quietly while they play these games, they are mistaken. I’ll make sure Ghanaians know exactly what’s going on with their leadership,” she warned.
Despite facing opposition from her former party, Cynthia Mamle Morrison remains committed to her independent candidacy and promises to expose what she calls “the truth” about the NPP’s internal dealings.
