The National Sports Authority (NSA) has issued a strong warning ahead of the much-anticipated football match between the Black Stars of Ghana and their Sudanese counterparts.
The match, set to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday (10 October), has raised concerns about the potential use of the event to push political or pressure group agendas.
In a press release dated October 9, 2024, the NSA said it had received intelligence suggesting that some individuals plan to use the match as a platform to promote causes that go against the guidelines of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
“It has come to the attention of the Authority that some individuals intend to use the game between the Black Stars of Ghana and their Sudanese counterparts as a platform to promote an agenda that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) frowns upon,” the statement read.
The NSA emphasised that any person or group caught displaying political or pressure group paraphernalia, apparel, or placards at the stadium would face consequences.
“Any individual or group of persons who openly display any political or pressure group paraphernalia, apparel or placards at the Accra Sports Stadium will be apprehended by the security apparatus who will be deployed in and around the facility,” the release warned.
Fans attending the game were also advised to comply with match day security regulations to avoid sanctions. The NSA reiterated that security forces would be present to enforce the rules before, during, and after the match.
“In this regard, football fans are advised to adhere to all the match day security regulations before, during and after the game in order to avoid any form of arrest or sanctions,” the release concluded.
This warning comes as a proactive measure to maintain order and ensure the focus remains on the sporting event, without disruptions from non-football-related activities.
The NSA’s security presence at the stadium aims to uphold the integrity of the game and prevent any violations of CAF’s regulations.
