Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has advised Samira Bawumia, wife of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, to campaign with humility and respect as the upcoming elections approach.
During a visit on Wednesday (9 October) part of her one-week campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, the Asantehene urged Samira to focus on clearly sharing her plans and those of her husband and their party.
He called for decorum and civility in the political arena as the elections drew near.
“God is the maker of kings, so continue spreading your message. I also thank you for supporting your husband in his campaign, as men succeed when they are supported by good and dedicated wives. I give you my blessings as you embark on your campaign activities.”
For her part, Hajia Samira Bawumia reaffirmed her husband’s commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians, especially women and the youth. expressed her gratitude to the Asantehene for his continued guidance and support for her husband.
She highlighted Dr Bawumia’s plans to empower women through the establishment of a Women Empowerment Fund, designed to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) led by women. Additionally, she noted that Dr Bawumia intends to create one million jobs, with a particular focus on youth employment, as part of his vision for the country’s development.
“Dr. Bawumia, through your wise counsel, is poised to improve the lives of the people of Ghana and Asante. His vision is to empower women with the establishment of the Women Empowerment Fund and an SME Bank to provide financial support to women. And as you know, the campaign has intensified, and that is why I had to make a trip to Manhyia to seek your blessings. With your prayers, Dr. Bawumia and the NPP will emerge victorious,” she said.
“Dr. Bawumia has chosen your grandson as his running mate, which is very significant and a huge testimony of his connection to Asante,” she said, reaffirming the importance of regional unity and mutual support within the party’s leadership.
Meanwhile, the Second Lady continues her seven-day tour of the party’s stronghold and is expected to interact with voters including those at Asokwa and Bosomtwe Constituencies on Thursday (10 October).
