Bawumia best option for young voters, says Kofi Tonto

Kofi Tonto, a political aide to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Mahamudu Bawumia, has said there is no better option for young voters in the upcoming general election than the vice-president.

He said Bawumia’s impactful politics is driving organic love for him ahead of the 7 December elections.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show (ABS) on Tuesday (6 August), Tonto said Bawumia is the leader to propel Ghana into the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) that young people desire.

“Young people are looking for a leader who can help us catch up to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, somebody who can help us get to that level,” Tonto said.

“Who better than Mahamudu Bawumia? Somebody who is talking about the opportunity for a young person to live in Atimpoku; once they have the requisite skills and the requisite infrastructure, they can live in their house in Atimpoku and work for a company in the USA, in Canada or elsewhere.”

“That is the Ghana that the young people are looking for and Bawumia assures them that he is the person to give them that Ghana they are looking for.”

Tonto added that Bawumia is the first vice-president since Aliu Mahama whom young people can attribute tangible achievements to.

“For the first time, when you go to these areas, you see young people attributing a vice-president to something,” he said.

“Apart from maybe Aliu Mahama that at a point we attributed, you know, he did a campaign on sanitation, etcetera and then sending the girl child to school.”

“Aside from him, that you can attribute these two things to; there isn’t a vice president in the history of this republic who young people alike can attribute something to something that impacts them daily,” the political aide further stated.

Bawumia’s influence

Tonto also highlighted Bawumia’s influence, citing specific examples. “If I’m a young person and I pick up my phone to do MoMo from MTN to, let’s say, Telecel, that is an impact directly from Mahamudu Bawumia.”

“Yesterday, a young person who lives around the Suhum area was telling me how every so often the drone—you know, we have one in Omenako—will pass by and the kids in the area will be excited to see the drone passing by to go and deliver medicines, etcetera. That young person is impacted directly by a vice president.”

Tonto also mentioned the availability of ambulances, the ease of renewing NHIA cards, and access to Ghana Cards as examples of Bawumia’s contributions.

“If a young person sees an ambulance in the constituency provided by the government, that’s a young person who is seeing a direct impact of the vice president. If the young person wants to renew their NHIA, if the young person has to go and do something and they need a Ghana Card, that person is impacted.”

“So you have a candidate who for the longest time, young people can say that I feel a certain degree of his impact,” he added.
