MTN Ghana, in collaboration with MobileMoney Ltd and Access Bank Ghana PLC, has introduced a new service called “MTN Pick and Pay Later.” This initiative enables MTN customers to purchase smartphones through flexible financing options, making modern devices more accessible.
Under the program, customers can select a smartphone, make an initial payment, and pay the remaining balance in instalments over either four or six months via MoMo (MTN Mobile Money).
The range of smartphone options available will be based on customers’ creditworthiness, determined using MTN’s credit scoring engine. To access this service, customers can dial *170#, navigate to Financial Services, and select “Device Pick and Pay Later” under the Loans section.
Speaking about the initiative, MTN’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mr Noel Kojo-Ganson, stressed the importance of digital connectivity in today’s world. “At MTN, we believe everyone deserves the benefit of a modern, connected life, including access to high-speed internet services with a good smartphone.
This initiative is aimed at helping customers who desire smartphones but may not have sufficient funds for an upfront purchase,” he stated.
The program is part of a broader collaboration with MobileMoney Ltd and Access Bank Ghana PLC, aimed at lowering the barriers to communication and digital inclusion. Access Bank’s involvement includes financing smartphone purchases, ensuring customers can stay connected to online platforms and digital banking services.
Ms. Matilda Asante-Asiedu, Group Head of Retail Banking at Access Bank Ghana, emphasized the significance of the partnership in addressing financial accessibility challenges.
“Only 13% of the eligible population currently have access to borrowing, leaving a substantial gap for those who qualify but lack access to finance. This initiative reflects Access Bank’s vision of empowering individuals to support their lifestyles in an increasingly digital world through the convenience of a mobile phone,” she said.
The initiative also aligns with Access Bank’s mission to promote financial inclusion and advance a cash-light economy, making it easier for Ghanaians to afford smartphones and adopt digital services.
The “Pick and Pay Later” service is supported by other key partners, including Hollard Insurance, PaySwitch, and Atlantic Phones. These organizations contribute various services to enhance the customer experience. Customers can choose from a variety of smartphone models, including entry-level and mid-tier 4G devices, designed to meet different needs and budgets.
By financing smartphones, MTN Ghana and its partners aim to increase the adoption of digital financial solutions while supporting underserved and unbanked populations. This initiative provides customers the flexibility to transact anytime and anywhere, further integrating digital solutions into their daily lives.
For more information, customers can visit www.mtnghana.com, www.ghana.accessbankplc.com, or email customercare.gh@mtn.com. Alternatively, they can dial *170# to access the “Device Pick and Pay Later” option under the loan menu.
