Asaase News has gathered that social media commentator and activist Bright Simmons’s claims that the ongoing redevelopment of the Trade Fair and the construction of a 300-million-dollar United States-funded mega data centre have stalled are unfounded.
According to information available to Asaase News, the project has only been delayed because of an ongoing restructuring and financial arrangement at Africa Data Centres (ADC), the organization that has partnered with the Ghana Trade Fair Company for the redevelopment project.
A letter sighted by Asaase News from ADC pointed out that delays in the ongoing restructuring and financing arrangements at the ADC were to blame and that the company is now working on scheduling a revised payment date as the financing process moves forward.
Africa Data Centres noted that they expect to complete the financing process as soon as possible. They also confirm their commitment in completing one of the biggest data centers in Africa
Social media controversy
Bright Simons, a Vice President of IMANI Africa, has waged a relentless “war” against the entire Trade Fair Redevelopment initiative and the 300-million-dollar United States-funded mega data centre. In a recent post, Simons sought to attack the project by attributing the delay in its development to bad governance and leadership.
“Trade Fair is just one of hundreds of such projects the new government will inherit. If I have learned anything about politics in Ghana, it is that the same kind of dealmakers always pops up in every administration. The kind of mess we have seen at Trade Fair is thus almost guaranteed to recur there or somewhere else,” Bright Simons wrote on his X handle.
“The only way to avoid such outcomes is for there to be critical voices within the ruling party itself. Nothing else works. If you support the new government, sacrifice some of your comforts and become an insider-critic. We will be here to dissect any intel we receive from our beloved and trusted whistleblowers for our dear readers,” Simons further stated in his post.
