The Ministry of Health has activated its emergency response plan to combat the new virus Mpox disease which is fast spreading in some part of Africa.
This action by the Ministry of Health comes after the announcement by the World Health Organization (WHO) that the new virus, Mpox is gradually spreading.
Recall that on the 14th of August of 2024, WHO Director-General announced the spread of the MPox virus in Africa. WHO has expressed concern over the rapid spreading of the various in most African countries.
The response plan activated by the Ministry of Health through the Ghana Health Agency is to address the potential threat of the disease within the country.
This emergency activated is inline with the World Health Organization’s action to intensify global efforts in combating the spread of Mpox, particularly in Africa.
In order to control the spread of the Mpox virus, the Ministry of Health has issued a directive to all agencies and stakeholders to heighten surveillance systems at all levels especially at the airports and the boarders.
The Ghana health Agency has also shared the necessary steps to early detection of the virus, and has encouraged individuals to report to health facilities, for treatment if they they see any symptoms of the virus on their body.
In 2022, Ghana recorded 120 cases of Mpox and 8 cases in 2023 respectively. However, there has been no reported cases in 2024 yet.
