KT Hammond lost because of toilets – Dr. Frank Amoakohene

Ashanti Regional Minister-designate, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, shared insights into his ministerial journey and his successful efforts during the election campaigns.

When asked about his vetting process, Dr. Amoakohene expressed that it was a productive learning experience, adding that he prepared with a dedicated team who worked on possible areas of focus.

“I spent time watching other ministers and their responses to understand how best to approach the vetting,” he said, emphasizing the importance of sharing ideas and engaging with the process.

Reflecting on the media feedback, Dr. Amoakohene was pleased with the positive response. He stated, “People are glad that I did not let the youth down, and His Excellency’s decision to nominate me has been justified.”

The Ashanti Regional Minister-designate was pleased to see that the public, particularly the youth, resonated with his responses during the vetting.

Speaking about the moment when he first heard of his nomination, Dr. Amoakohene admitted that he was initially surprised.

“I wasn’t expecting a ministerial role. Considering my age and everything, I thought I would likely be nominated for a deputy ministerial role or a CEO position.”

However, he understood that the president, based on his strengths, made the best decision for the region.

Dr. Amoakohene’s involvement in the NDC party, particularly as a campaign manager, helped secure crucial votes in the Ashanti Region.

He explained that he focused on reaching out to people who had never been exposed to the NDC’s policies, sharing how politics is about ideas, and offering the people a choice.

His strategy was effective, as it earned him significant support in the region, surprising many who believed the region was strongly in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Addressing the success in winning traditionally NPP-dominated constituencies, Dr. Amoakohene noted that the NPP’s lack of engagement with community needs, such as the absence of public toilets in KT Hammond’s constituency, had worked against them.

He stressed the importance of staying connected to the people and responsive to their evolving needs. “Once we stay closer to the people, we will be able to impress them with continuous development.”
