APD 2025: “24-hour economy is a game changer” – says BADEA President

The President of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), Sidi Ould Tah, has described President John Dramani Mahama’s 24-hour economy plan as a potential “game-changer” for Africa’s economic transformation.

He said this during the final day of the Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD) 2025, during the ‘Presentation of Outcome Document: Two-Day Policy and Business Leaders’ dialogues at the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, February 1, 2025.

Tah lauded President Mahama for his efforts thus far. According to him, significant progress had been made, but there was much work needed to fully realize Africa’s economic potential.

“The transformation of our economies requires bold actions. As we move forward, we must ensure that we create a 24-hour economy that promotes growth and development.”

He emphasised that Mahama’s economic plan was not about simply establishing systems or structures for political positioning but was aimed at fostering ambition and cultivating an environment where businesses can thrive.

He stressed the importance of focusing on productivity, job creation, and infrastructure development to create a conducive environment for sustained economic growth.

“Our focus should be on increasing productivity, creating jobs, and improving infrastructure to support our shared vision,” Tah added.

He said Africa leaders must invest in economies that prioritise productivity, innovation, and sustainability.

He called for continued support for quality transformation, including reforms in trade systems and removing barriers that hinder business operations.
