The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ada Constituency and 2nd Deputy Minority Chief whip, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe has disclosed that male politicians are the reason why a lot of women are shying away from politics in the country.
It is an open secret that more men are venturing into politics compared to women despite the passage of the affirmative action bill
Lamenting this disparity during an interview on Onua FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Comfort Doyoe opened up about some of the challenges she has faced as a woman after she decided to contest in the Ada Constituency as the Member of Parliament(MP).
She revealed how women find the road to politics very difficult due to how some male politicians turn out to be a stumbling block, stating that male politicians have diverse strategies to bring the women down.
“The male politicians have so many strategies they use to discourage and bring women down and women are emotional. Some don’t have the capacity to take some criticism or stand firm during turbulent moments”. She disclosed
According to her, the system in Ghanaian politics does not favour women, reiterating that politics in Ghana comes with a whole package that one cannot escape.
“If you are a woman in Ghana and you venture into politics, it’s either they tag you as a prostitute, a gossip or a fornicator just to push you away from the political grounds”. She bemoaned.
