Jirapa Dubai murder: Court rescinds decision to transfer case to Kumasi

The Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, has reversed her earlier directive to transfer the murder case of the CEO of the Royal Cosy Hills Hotel from the Wa High Court to Kumasi.

The decision comes after family members of the late CEO, Eric Johnson, protested the transfer, citing public interest and logistical concerns.

The Wa High Court presided over by Judge Yussif Assibey, had suspended proceedings on June 12th following a letter from the Chief Justice directing the transfer.

However, the family’s objections led to a reconsideration, and the Chief Justice has now authorized the Wa High Court to proceed with the trial.

Lead prosecutor, Saed Abdul-Shakur, confirmed that the case management conference will take place on July 18th, followed by the trial commencement.

“Today when we appeared in court to start the trial, the High Court judge announced that the Chief Justice has given him the power to continue the trial and made orders to the effect that on the 18th we’ll be having the case management conference and after 18th, we’ll take the adjournment for the trial to commence, so I can say now that we are commencing the trial in Wa.”

He assured that his team had gathered sufficient evidence capable of securing convictions against the three accused persons.
