I’ll end Galamsey in two weeks –  Independent Presidential Candidate promises

Independent Presidential Candidate for the 2024 polls, Kenneth Nana Kwame Asamoah has disclosed that if given the power to be President of the country on December 7, he will use two weeks to stop galamsey activities in the country.

During a studio discussion on Kingdom FM, Kenneth Asamoah disclosed that the illegal mining activities have not been stopped because those behind the acts are top politicians of the ruling government.

He added that military men who are meant to protect the lands cannot do their jobs now because the force behind the illegal mining is strong adding that some military men are sent to these mining centers to protect the illegal miners.

“What is the work of the Ghana army and armed forces in Ghana? They have one job to protect the citizens from harm and our lands. So what is stopping soldiers from protecting the lands from galamseyers? Soldiers that were sent to these galamsey sites were sent there to protect the people digging the gold, not the lands. Because the people behind the illegal mining are the top politicians of the ruling party. That’s why I said if Nana Addo gives me power I will stop galamsey in two weeks.” He vowed.

He mentioned that some top politicians including the Mayor of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have been given the license to mine gold in the country. He further stated that he agrees with former President John Mahama over his promise of releasing all galamseyers arrested and detained.

According to Kenneth, John Mahama’s promise is valid because when the Kingpin of galamsey, Aisha Huang was arrested the government chose the loan they were trying to obtain from China over justice that needed to be served.

“You arrested and jailed your own citizens for illegal mining but you had the audacity to set free the foreigner, Aisha Huang for the same offence. This same Aisha Huang came back with a different name on our own Ghana card to continue the illegal mining.” He observed.

“Meanwhile, the local galamseyers who are being arrested are not the kingpins of this act. Go and check if those arrested have GHc1 billion to purchase an excavator for galamsey”. He stressed.
