Bawumia, wife perform Umrah in Mecca

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Ghana’s former Vice President and flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections, has undertaken a significant spiritual journey to Mecca to perform Umrah.

Accompanied by his wife, Hajia Samira Bawumia, and a group of close friends, this act of devotion reflects both gratitude and a plea for divine guidance at a crucial juncture in his political career.

Dr. Bawumia shared his reflections on Facebook, stating: “Together with Hajia Samira Bawumia and some friends, I arrived in Mecca yesterday to perform Umrah (Islamic Pilgrimage to Mecca). This is to thank the Almighty Allah for His grace. We also prayed for guidance and protection for us and for our nation, Ghana.”

Umrah, often referred to as the “lesser pilgrimage,” holds deep spiritual significance in Islam. Unlike the Hajj, which occurs annually, Umrah can be performed at any time, providing Muslims with an opportunity for renewal and reflection.

Dr. Bawumia’s journey is emblematic of his gratitude for past blessings and a heartfelt plea for Allah’s guidance as he seeks to lead Ghana through complex times.
