President John Mahama has addressed growing concerns regarding the actions of some of his party’s youth in the aftermath of the election victory.

Reflecting on the sacrifices made by many young supporters, Mahama acknowledged their contributions to the party’s success but stressed the need for responsible action moving forward.

“I know that many of our youth sacrificed a lot to help the party win,” Mahama said, his voice resolute.

“But I also know that our regional and constituency executives know who contributed to our victory. What they must do now is compile a list of these individuals and explore ways to engage their youthful energies once things settle,” he said during a Presidential Dinner on January 8, 2025.

The president’s comments came in the wake of reports of some youth taking the law into their own hands, allegedly seizing goods from warehouses or disrupting local systems.

While acknowledging the frustration and excitement that often accompanies a political victory, Mahama emphasized that such actions were counterproductive.

“Rather than taking the law into their own hands, opening fertilizer depots, or taking rice from warehouses, we should focus on more constructive activities,” he urged.

He called for a collective focus on organizing efforts that would channel the youth’s enthusiasm into development and growth.

Mahama did not shy away from addressing the potential consequences of unchecked actions.

“I expect regional chairmen and constituency chairmen to call our young people to order so that we can operate in an organized manner,” he continued, making it clear that maintaining peace and order was a top priority for his administration.

“If this continues, we cannot allow law and order to break down. We may have to call in the security services to protect sensitive installations, and we wouldn’t want that,” he warned, urging party members to take ownership of their actions to avoid escalation.
