Govt begged Minority not to ask Linda Ocloo questions because she is a widow – Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader and Ranking Member of Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has revealed that government representatives personally requested that the Minority refrain from questioning the Greater Accra Regional Minister-nominee, Linda Akweley Ocloo, during her vetting.

Ocloo’s vetting, which lasted less than 10 minutes, raised eyebrows as no questions were asked by committee members—an unusual and rare occurrence in the parliamentary vetting process. The unusually brief and unchallenged nature of her approval sparked public debate and speculation over the rationale behind such leniency.

In an interview with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) on Monday, February 3, Afenyo-Markin explained that the Minority’s decision to remain silent was a direct response to a request made by government officials.

“They came begging that the woman could not stand the scrutiny. So, we just let her go… They said she is a widow and that she could not stand the heat,” he disclosed.

He further explained that government officials pointed to Ocloo’s personal circumstances, specifically her widowhood, as the reason for their request, expressing concern that the intense questioning could be too much for her to endure.
