The fourth edition of Ghana Digital & Innovation Week (GDIW) commenced on Wednesday (2 October) at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
Running until Friday (4 October), the event is a collaboration between Ghana, Germany, and Israel, aimed at celebrating the achievements of Ghana’s digital innovation ecosystem while fostering a collective vision for its future development.
One of the participants is STEMAIDE, an edtech startup with a mission to equip African children with essential 21st-century skills.
CEO Prince Boateng Asare highlighted the company’s flagship product, the STEMAIDE kit, which provides learners with hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) tools and resources.
According to Asare, the kit allows users to build over 200 projects, offering flexibility for beginners and experts alike. “It works in a very simple way,” he explained.
“You have your kit; you either need a phone, a tablet, or a computer and you can build over 200 projects. It starts from a beginner, intermediary, advanced and an expert level.”
“We ensure that no child is left behind; we ensure that every child is really equipped with the necessary skills that they need to be relevant in the future and the future of work,” Asare added.
Another innovative company at the event is Rivia Clinic, a healthcare startup founded by Isidore Kpotufe.
Rivia Clinic is dedicated to improving the quality of primary healthcare by partnering with existing clinics to enhance their infrastructure and technology.
Reflecting on his own experience, Kpotufe said, “Last year I went to the clinic to treat my ear infection and when I got to the clinic, it was looking very bad; the building was looking very old, the environment wasn’t very confidence-inspiring and so together with a team of doctors, technology and business folks, we decided to set up Rivia to address the issue of poor quality hubs in Ghana.”
These two startups are just a glimpse of the many innovators participating in Ghana Digital & Innovation Week (GDIW), all working towards revolutionising key sectors in the country.
