Galamsey:  Wontumi would be the first to be arrested under the NDC – Sammy Gyamfi

The National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has disclosed that politician and businessman, Chairman Wontumi born Benard Antwi Boasiako would be the first to be arrested for illegal mining otherwise known as galamsey under the NDC.

Sammy Gyamfi described the NPP government as thieves while asking about the drones allegedly bought to fight against the galamsey activities.

“Thieves, they have stolen the drones”. He claimed on live TV.

He further accused the ruling party of also stealing some excavators at mining sites to hide them and deceived Ghanaians that the fight against galamsey was ongoing.

He further stated boldly that if the NDC comes into power and anyone from any party preaches about galamsey, he or she will be arrested.

According to him, during the NDC era in 2016, Chairman Wontumi who is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP was dealt with hence he could not operate his galamsey.

He however added that Chairman Wontumi will be the first person to be arrested and prosecuted for illegal mining when the NDC assumes power in 2025.

“We dealt with Wontumi, he could not continue his illegal mining.  He will be the first person we will arrest for illegal mining, quote me anywhere. The devastation he has caused in the Tano Mire forest reserves, destroying those waterbodies, he will pay for it.”

“At least the Minerals Commission has released an official correspondent who said what he did there was legal mining.  He will never go scot-free under President John Mahama. Nobody will be spared”, Sammy Gyamfi reiterated during an interview on Metro TV’s Ghana Tonight.
